Landlord’s cheeky response as scathing TripAdvisor review brands service ‘pathetic’

A pub landlord has had the last laugh after he responded to a scathing review on TripAdvisor that branded the service at his establishment “pathetic”.

A lengthy review on the website slammed the “mediocre service” and said they would not return due to the personality of the two owners, who are brothers.

The Anglers Rest, in Ballyconnell, Northern Ireland, received just one star in the miserly review.

The post reads: “Pathetic service. Well used to this place as live about twenty miles away.

“Booked a table for Sunday evening. All ur party hadn’t artived [sic] at 5pm at time table was booked at 5.10 pressure was put on us to order even though we didn’t know what other people wanted!!!!!!!

“Service was very mediocre with two young fellas who had absolutely no personality seemed to be brothers. Asked for Apple pie and custard got apple pie and spray crewm [sic].

“Steaks are lovely but service leaves a lot to be desired,” she added.

“Pity as we would have been in this place regularly and recently it is going downhill will be a while before we are back due to personality of two male staff and pathetic service.”

One of the landlords was not about to let this opportunity go to waste.

Taking the bad review in his stride, he used quotes from it on the board outside the pub.

The sign read: “Come in and meet the “two young fellas who had absolutely no personality who seemed to be brothers” – Jane. M. on TripAdvisor.

“Note: We are brothers,” it added.

The landlord then posted a snap on Facebook of the new entrance board, with the caption: “If you have no critics, you’ll likely have no success”.

One follower replied: “Personally I think the ‘two brothers’ are the fellas who make the place!

“Always lovely customer service from you both, along with great food and a lovely atmosphere,” they added.

Another wrote: “Well done Anglers rest, always ‘top service’ a few extras rules in place because of the pandemic, people need to understand that and be grateful to be able to get out and about again safely”.
